My story

So I ran this yesterday now, in completely horrendous conditions that resulted in half the number of usual runners (so just me and loads of running clubs basically!). The race is multi-terrain, so 5k is coast paths and 2k is fields - which were drenched, slippy and pretty trecherous! However I managed to come in 61 minutes and 38 seconds, which was exactly 14 minutes quicker than last time - and I was told by race officials that everyone was running 6-7 minutes slower than they had previously - so if it hadn't been for mother nature I would have been VERY close to my target. There were way more hills than I remember, and I was so wet both my fancy new running watch, and iPhone died on me within 4 minutes of running. But there we go! I was happy with my time, and now I ache like crazy! Thanks for all the sponsorship, and hopefully I can reach £500 before the end of the week :)

In 2009, whilst slightly intoxicated in San Carlos in Bristol I was dared by my new boss to run this exact race. Drunkenly I agreed. After no training at all, and after 2 hours sleep, whilst wearing trainers that hadn't seen any action for 4 years, whilst still drunk, and whilst eating a kit-kat chunky - I started the race. I finished in a not so fantastic time of 1 hour and 14 minutes (but hasten to add I was Tweeting regulary throughout the race).

2 years later, having already lost just over a stone, and now doing a bit more training I have decided to run the race again - with the intention of knocking a whopping 20 minutes off my 2009 time. Whilst I don't plan on being drunk this time, I promise I will still Tweet. I work in media after all, so it's what my fans will be expecting.

I've picked this charity for a number of reasons, during my teenage years several friends, and friends of the family were unfortunate enough to lose their battle with cancer whilst just teenagers themselves. More recently, I was massively inspired by 'Alice's Bucket List'. So they are my reasons, and with the all the lovely business people I have met and filmed for our digital magazine I have set myself the hopefully not to ambitious target of £500. So dig deep people - and if I hit that target I promise to cross that finish line in under 54 minutes.
