The Ironman event is seen by many as the ultimate endurance event. It consists of a 2.4 mile swim in the sea, a 112 mile cycle ride followed by running a full marathon of 26.2 miles. Any one of these events is a challenge in itself but to do all 3 one after the other within a time limit of 17 hours I've heard many people describe it as mental.

Especially when I only started to learn to swim properly november 2011 just so I could do this event.

I've had adult friends and members of my family die from cancer, and most people will know of some one that has also died from this awful disease. One night I was sat watching the heroes award on tv and watched in awe as it showed the work of Clic Sargent with children with cancer. The program moved me to tears and a determination that I would try and do something positive to help the families and children in this situation. The training is consuming my life right now, working a full time job and training 5-6 days a week.
