I have successfully completed the below challenges this year and when all the money has been collected it will be over my £2k target. So thank you all very much. It is much appreciated. I have left my page open as I have also entered the Cardiff Half Marathon on October 17th 2010. My aim is to beat my 1 hour 28 minutes PB. I'm currently training 6 days a week to achive my target.

If anyone would like to make a donation in connection to my time...for instance for every minute I take off my PB a donation of £5 will be made then this would be more than welcome. This will also give me a target!!

Many Thanks for everyone's donation

Simon Philpin

After completing numerous marathons and an Ironman I decided I needed a bigger challenge which is why I've entered the Marathon Des Sables and Ride Across Britain in 2010. The MDS is in April and RAB in June. The MDS is a 151 mile race across the Sahara desert in Morroco. The event is run over 6 days and is known as the toughest foot race on EARTH - Competitors have to carry everything they will need for the duration (apart from a tent) on their backs in a rucksack (food, clothes, medical kit, sleeping bag etc). Water is rationed and handed out at each checkpoint. This is all done in temperatures of up to 120F.

8 weeks later I will be completing RAB which is a 1000 mile cycle from John O'Groats to Lands End. I will be cycling on average 110 miles a day for 9 days in temperatures of whatever the UK weather can throw at me. Therefore the next 5/6 months are going to be very hard in terms of training. On top of that my partner has just given birth to our second child. Therefore lots of training with lots of sleepness nights..... Great :) Probably not the best time in my life to decide doing both tough challenges.

As both challenges are quite unique I've decided for the first time ever to complete them both for charity. Given the magnitude of both events I might be able to raise quite a bit of cash for a good cause. I've decided to raise funds for Epilepsy. This is due to two of my three sisters suffering from the condition. Both are quite lucky in that it is controlled through medication, others are not so lucky and have to deal with it on a daily basis where medication has no effect. I have 5/6 months to go and a lot of hard work to put in before the events......best I get to it. If you would like more information on each event please go to www.saharamarathon.co.uk & www.rideacrossbritain.co.uk

Many Thanks for your time.
