Story

C2C ‘in a day’ Challenge’

Welcome to our fundraising web page, detailing our cycling challenge, to raise monies for the ‘Sir Bobby Robson Foundation’ on the 19th June 2010.

Following numerous cycling events that many of the lads have undertaken over the past few years, we decided during some random event in 2009 to ‘raise the bar’ and instead of doing an event over 2 or 3 days, as is the ‘norm’, we would set ourselves a sterner mission.

The unashamedly, alcohol induced thought out venture (aren’t most) was geared around one of our die hard cast members, John ‘Cockney’ Sheridan, as part of his 40th year celebrations (it’s his showbiz age we think)!

The other participants in our challenge are Simon Thorpe, Kirk Frostwick, Michael Douglas, Marc Haley and Mark Doherty. Gratefully supported by Keith Bulmer and David Thorpe, through transport over to Whitehaven and ‘back up’.

The challenge we have chosen is the iconic ‘C2C’ cycle route. Some of the lads have done this route before, but never over one day, hence to give us a fighting chance we have chosen the nearest Saturday to the longest day, and we’ve little doubt it will be…!!

We will begin our ride on the morning of the 19th June in Whitehaven with our conclusion to the 135 mile ride, over the ‘roof of England’, being at Roker Pier in Sunderland.

Given that us ‘thirty something’s’ or in John’s case ‘forty something’s’ are obviously starting to consider the old mid life crisis (John’s now got share’s in ‘back to black’, will probably get his teeth whitened this year and is talking about strapping a 250cc engine to his bike) we hope your help and support of this magnificent charity, will assist in keeping up our motivations levels, during what will be an extremely challenging project, yet one which we hope will be both rewarding to our personal and charitable fundraising goals.

The focus of our fundraising is based upon the treatment of cancer. Unfortunately most of us know of friends or family members who have had to deal with the effects of cancer.

Through the efforts of our true ‘local hero’, Sir Bobby Robson has polarised our attentions and energy in to fighting back. Through all of your support, donations made are appreciated by both us and ultimately the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
