Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Many of you will know that I visited Ethiopia with the CRED Foundation in October 2010. The yound lad opposite was out playing street football at 6:30am on a Sunday morning, their football pitch is the deserted (well almost) dual-carriageway outside of our hotel. These are wonderful people who are so happy and yet who endure such staggering poverty in our terms. For me that visit was a stunning experience - I was really challenged by what I saw and enthralled by what I witnessed some marvellous young people from the UK do whilst they were out there.
Well this October I am going to be returning, this time leading a group of teenagers and adults from Oakmead College of Technology and The Littlehampton Academy. We are going to run an activity week in school and after school for children in one of the poorest areas of the capital Addis Ababa. Each of the youngsters going on the trip has to pay for themselves to go on the trip and so I'm looking to raise the cost of one trip fee £1,280. The UK youngsters give a great deal whilst they're over in Addis but they also get huge benefits themselves and that for me is an added reason for going, to see some of our truly wonderful UK young people have a life-changing experience.
To encourage you to help I will be sacrificing my now nearly one year old beard for the cause - and on Saturday 10th September 2011 the beard will be off and my now tanless chin will be exposed to the elements once more. The target shown on the sight is £780 because if I raise that figure, my employers will match the remaining £500.
