It intends to break the world record for long distance relay running (currently 1,923 miles), by having hundreds of runners covering over 2,500 miles in back to back marathons around Great Britain. The route starts in London and will follow the coastline of Britain clockwise, taking in major cities such as Southampton, Bristol, Cardiff, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Newcastle, before heading back down the east coast to London.

We have to cover this in under 4 hours to keep to the overall schedule, and will have the pleasure of handing the baton on to 1983 London Marathon winner, Mike Gratton.

Lack of funding in brain tumour research is a major issue. Other, higher profile conditions receive up to 15 times the government funding available for research, even though brain tumours are the second most common form of cancer that affects children.

Although Brain Tumour UK is lobbying to rectify this deficit, change has been slow in coming and so they’re working hard right now to get the resources that are needed to research effective diagnostic and treatment options.

Brain tumours now kill more children than leukaemia in this country and are the biggest child cancer killer. 2 people every hour are diagnosed with a brain tumour.

New and better treatments are desperately needed. We need more laboratory research and clinical trials. We have to do more. That’s why we want to support Brain Tumour UK to continue with the work they do every day to make this happen.

Brain Tumour UK funds research in leading university facilities such as The Brain Tumour UK Centre for Neuro-Oncology Research located at the University of Wolverhampton. This is only the second centre dedicated entirely to brain tumour research in the UK and the first outside London.
