BUPA Great North Run 2009 · 20 September 2009 ·

Established in 1981, the Newman Holiday Trust began by running a one week summer holiday for children with special needs. The Trust now provides holidays for about 130 children with special needs aged four to sixteen each year, in various locations around the UK. Due to the high level of skilled care they require or financial circumstances, the children selected for these breaks would not otherwise receive a holiday. The holidays provide a range of fun activities in a safe and supportive environment and use a care ration of one helper to one child at all times. The Trust is an entirely voluntary organization and owes its success to over 200 people who dedicate their free time to helping these children. This voluntary structure ensures that every penny raised goes directly towards a child's holiday.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

As you all know we are always doing some event for charity and this year we are running the Great North run as a warm up for our next half marathon in Marseille! Yes you did read correctly 2 half marathons in just over a month we need our heads testing!

We are running on behalf of the Newman Holiday Trust which is a charity that provides holidays for children with special needs. The charity was established in 1981, and began by running a one week summer holiday, the Trust now provides holidays for over 120 disabled children aged 5-16 each year, in various locations around the UK.

Due to the high level of skilled care they require or financial circumstances, the children selected for these breaks would not otherwise receive a holiday. The holidays provide a range of fun activities in a safe and supported environment and use a care ratio of one helper to one child at all times.

The Trust is an entirely voluntary organisation and owes its success to over 200 people who dedicate their free time to helping these children.  Because of this they need our help to continue to provide these holidays. The trust is an entirely voluntary structure which ensures that every penny raised goes directly towards a child’s holiday.
