Welcome to my fundraising page in aid of the AKU society and in support of my cousin Ann Kerrigan who has this rare genetic disease. I think the best way to give you insight into the disease is to relate to you 'John's Story'....
"The pain began in my hip, knees and back in my mid 20s. I saw a rhemuatologist who knew about AKU and gave me injections against inflamation. I was on crutches and knee braces for about 12 years. I had both hips and knees replaced and surgery on my elbows. Today aged 61, all my cartilage has worn out. My right hand fingers are still and cold. My right eye is blind and I'm nearly deaf which affects my balance. I have had 3 heart bypasses, a kidney transplant and my gallbladder removed. My vertebrace has fused together, I have congestive heart failure and diabetes and use an electric 3 wheeler to move" JOHN HARRIS LIVED IN THE USA. HE DIED AGED 63
