Story
Hello, my name is Sir Humphrey and I'm a Basset Hound. I'm currently in training for the Barnes Best Paw Forward sponsored walk. It's a tough business as I don't tend to walk long distances due mainly to my short legs and heavy body. I also trip over my ears now and then.
Nonetheless, life has been good to me after being rescued in Morocco by a really attractive and intelligent British/Canadian couple. I now live in leafy west London and go to doggy day care three times a week with other privileged hounds. Life is good, but I began to think that there had to be more to life than chasing spaniels, romancing poodles and trying to find out where the really attractive and intelligent British/Canadian couple keep the cheese. Then, two weeks ago, whilst I was being groomed at the Barnes Waggery I got to thinking "it's about time this Basset Hound gave something back". Yes, I chase cats out of the garden now and then and generally cheer everyone up by looking so cute, but that's not enough, not for this hound.
So, on 29 April I shall be doing a 5 Km waddle (Bassets don't just walk) with 100 other dogs in aid of Cancer Research UK. I've been told that it will be a world record distance for a Basset but I think I'm up to the challenge. The really attractive and intelligent British/Canadian couple will be coming too and frankly I'm worried about the short haired fella. But I'll slip my lead and go it alone if those losers start holding me back.
Give generously, but not too generously as times are tough. I should know as my chum at day care is Bernard, George Osborne's affenpinscher and he tells me what a muddle we're all in. Anyway, the really attractive and intelligent British/Canadian couple have agreed to quadruple any donation you make. I'm pretty sure they pay their taxes at the appropriate level so it's all legit.
Thank you,
Sir Humphrey Basset-Hound
