Story

Congo presents one of the world's deadliest emergencies to date.
More than 5.4 million people have died since 1998.
Gang rape and brutal torture are a daily reality for the women and children of Congo.
Women as old as 80 and as young as five have been victims of rape and other forms of sexual violence.
38,000 continue to die every month, 1200 a day.
Half of these deaths are children under the age of 5 years.

Some of the testimonies that you hear from women who have experienced this type of abuse are difficult to believe and yet they have hope. Hope that people will hear their stories and want to do something to change these startling facts.

Women for Women International offer that life line of hope and support. Women for Women International is a non-profit humanitarian organisation founded in 1993 that helps women in conflict and post-conflict zones such as Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda and Sudan by providing financial and emotional support, rights awareness training, education and job skills training to women survivors of war.

Women for Women International recently launched Run for Congo, a global running/walking movement focusing attention on its program in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. After many successful events in the US, the first official run in the UK will be the 3rd July race in Regent's Park.

Please donate anything you can - it all helps towards giving women in Congo a life changing opportunity!

About the charity

Women for Women International supports women who live in some of the world’s most dangerous places. Women enrol on the charity’s year-long training programme, where they learn how to earn and save money, improve their family’s health and make their voices heard at home and in their community.
