Dear All,

I write to you in desperate times! The anaesthetists (The Gassers) are revolting and getting ideas above their station!!

The "Gas Board" seem to think that surgeons are a slovenly lot and not very fit at all. I think this all stems from the resentment of having to not only look after the patient during an operation but also the surgeon. I agree they do have to move the lights now and then, prescribe the antibiotics required, answer the numerous telephones lined up on top of the machine that goes beep and occasional light cleaning in the evening whilst the surgeon enjoys some music and a glass of wine. BUT NOT FIT!!!! I take exception as I am sure you all will!

The outcome has been a challenge to see who can complete the Sprint Triathlon Team event in the quickest time at this years London Triathlon (when will they learn?!). I did ask if I could have my man compete on my behalf but the gassers have vetoed that idea. The reason we are doing the sprint event is that I see no reason wasting a whole day putting the gassers back in their place, and beside I have a light luncheon at noon.

So the first team that has been put together is superb!

Swim: Lisa Cheshire Clinical Nurse Specialist HPB Surgery (aka "The Dolphin")

Cycle: Stephen Olde Damink Consultant HPB Surgeon (customised bike, has ridden the Tour de France, classes this an outright sprint!!)

Run: Giles Bond-Smith Surgical HPB SpR (Training hard! Has made it to the end of the road twice now!)

There are two other surgical teams as well (Both better than the above team):

Swim: Khalid Dawas Consultant Upper GI Surgeon

Cycle: James Hewes Surgical Upper GI SpR

Run: Dan Woods Consultant Urologist

Swim: Emma Taylor Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Cycle: Jai Orthopaedic SpR

Run: Farras Haddad Orthopaedic Consultant

Please show your support for the surgeons (The Slashers) wiping the floor with The Gassers by pledging as much money as you can.

All the money raised will go to LAPResearchUK. This is a brand new charity that was set up this year by myself (Giles Bond-Smith) and Robert Hutchins. Essentially all money donated goes to help research into liver, pancreatic and biliary disease. Not very sexy I know but we really are making a difference at the cutting edge of scientific research into a host of horrific diseases. To try and help raise money you should know that Rob and I cover all the administration costs of the charity so that every penny pledged really does go directly to help our much needed research.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Giles
