Somerset Emergency Flood Relief Fund Appeal

In response to the crisis arising from the extensive and persistent flooding on the Somerset Levels this winter, Somerset Community Foundation launched the Emergency Flood Relief Fund Appeal on 9th January 2014

As of early March over £800,000 has been donated to the Fund by individuals, local businesses, charitable trusts and community groups that organised fundraising events.   In that time over £220,000 has been distributed to more than 300 households affected by the floods. As we continue with this distribution, applications are now being invited from micro-businesses also affected.

With pledges of future donations to the Fund, we are confident that £1m will have been raised very soon. Somerset Community Foundation will continue to use the Fund for the objectives stated below over the next 2-3 years. Donations that exceed the short and immediate-term need will be used to help flood-affected communities in Somerset increase their resilience or will be retained for future episodes of flooding. This may include using donations that exceed the £1m target to create an endowment fund for the long-term supporting of communities on the Somerset Levels.

As far as possible the cost of adminstering the fund will be taken from gift aid receipts, and no more than 10% will be taken from non-gift aided donations for administration.
