Thank you for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
My name is Sophie Clark, I am 17 years old and a student at St Paul’s Catholic College, Sunbury on Thames. In March 2010 I will be trekking to Base Camp Mount Everest.
The three-week expedition will take place during the expedition season which runs from March till the end of May. The expedition dates will run from the 26th March till 17th April and will begin at Nepal’s capital Kathmandu, and then onto Lukla where the trek will commence through the Sagamartha National Park region.
The key role for all of us undertaking this once in a life time opportunity is to raise money for the Woking and Sam Beare Hospices and The British Heart Foundation, as well as us being provided with the opportunity to learn new skills and test our limits in the one of the world’s most breathtaking environments.
I cannot achieve the above without some help and that’s what I am asking you to do today. I would be very grateful if you would be prepared to sponsor me, no matter how small, any contribution would go along way.
My fundraising target is a minimum of £5,000 with the first £2,200 (44%) through my JustGiving account going towards expedition participation costs. The remaining £2,700 and above will go to both Woking Hospice and The British Heart Foundation on a 50/50 equal share basis.
Below is some key information about our chosen charities:
Woking and Sam Beare Hospices- Is self funded and has to raise £4.9m per annum to keep thier hospice doors open which provides care for terminally ill patients and thier families. The hospice provides care for people aged 18 and over who have a life time threatening illness. The money raised for them will help them maintain nurses working for one year and aid in recruiting other much needed nurses for the hospice in the local community.
The British Heart Foundation- Every day they save lives, through pionerring research, providing vital information to help people reduce heart health risks, campaigning for change and supporting and caring for heart patients. The money raised will go towards child health education to get children leading more active lives and the importance of eating healthy food. Child obesity is on the increase in the UK and has risen tenfold over the last 10years. The BHF is committed, as we all should be, in getting children active and away from TV and computer games and eating real, healthy and nutritious food, not the junk food that is being advertised by profit hungry junk food corporations.
