Alzheimer's Society - Discover Jordan Cycle Challenge · 19 March 2011 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Hey everyone

My dad has Alzheimer’s and doesn’t always know who I am. I am desperate to help towards finding a cure for him and people like him. So I am taking part in a Cycle Challenge at the end of March, in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, and would be very grateful if you could sponsor me. The trip involves cycling for four days, on average 75km a day, through the agricultural land and small villages of Jordan. Not only will it be cycling on variable terrains but also the temperatures will change massively. So it is certainly a challenge, as I have never done anything like this before. But it will be well worth it, because it is for a great cause.

I have started my training, cycling once a week. However with the snow and freezing temperatures at the moment, I am doing dance workouts everyday and I will certainly be getting back on my bike when the snow has gone. Also when I go back to University after the Christmas holidays, I think spinning classes will definetly be in need after all those mince pies!

I know from personal experience how difficult it is for people who have Alzheimer’s and even more so for their families. There are 700,000 people with dementia in the UK today. Dementia affects millions of families - 1 in 3 people will end their life with dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Society not only gives care to those affected and raises awareness but also they are in partnership with leading scientists in search for a cure. Knowing that the disease will get worse and that there is no cure is the worst news for a person and family who are affected. The Alzheimer’s Society gives hope to people like me.

My target was £2500, which I have just reached recently but now it is to raise as much money as I can as it is for such a great cause. This includes the cost of travel (but just less than half).

Please sponsor me with anything you can.

Many thanks in advance, this really means a lot to me,

Sophie

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
