Story
On Sunday 12 May, bright and early, I will be taking part in Leeds Half Marathon, running 13.1 miles around Leeds to raise money for The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust Charitable Fund, specifically for Pinderfields Burns Club. Rather than aimlessly pounding the pavements around North Leeds, I thought it would be a fun idea to set myself a challenge and use it as an opportunity to raise money for a fantastic cause. I suffered third degree burns when I was three years old and I was a patient at the Burns Unit so both myself and my family have firsthand experience of the fantastic work Pinderfields Burns Unit does.
Burn injuries can leave physical and psychological scarring not only for the patient but the families as well. Pinderfields Burns Club was established ten years ago to offer support for young people who have major burn injuries. The club provides a place for them and their families to socialise and share experiences. Every year the Burns Club organises for the children and teenagers to go on Camps across Britain. These are expensive, but very worthwhile trips and the Burns Club relies entirely on donations to fund the Camps. I think it is a wonderful charity which offers a fantastic service to both the children and their parents.
