After having recently returned from an African Adventure, Sophie and Maryam decided it was time to bring an adventure to Dubai and take the proceeds over to Africa. Cue the mental genesis of the Vertical Epicathon.
We wanted to come up with something unique, earth friendly and physically insane. We also wanted to make sure that it all happened behind closed doors so that we wouldn't have to issue an age rating for all the blood and sweat that's bound to feature heavily in this one-day-post-iftar-thriller. It seemed only fitting to do a sponsored run/walk/crawl/roll up and down a whopping 64 floors of the iconic Almas Tower in JLT in the name of empowering women through sport, one of the principles of the valiant charity Friend of Edusport.
Friend of Edusport (www.friendofedusport.org) is a charity developing the lives of young people in Zambia through education and sport, as well as empowering women and girls in order to achieve more equal societies. The charity provides support to organisations and schools by providing much needed resources and professional development.
This is where you come in dear friend, relative, or abundantly generous stranger who has happened upon our cause. We have until August 27th to reach (and hopefully surpass) our target of £640. For all you erudite individuals that's effectively a tenner for every floor that we beat. We're not into picking random numbers.
Every little pound counts and we thank you for each and every one that you donate.
For those of you wondering how Sophie got Maryam to agree to climbing stairs - she told her there's a football waiting at the top.
Hugs on tap,
Sophie and Maryam.
