Story

We have been home from Malawi for a year and it has been a difficult year for the nation. Rains have been erratic with a poor harvest predicted, basic food prices have doubled, foreign exchange and fuel are scarce and uncertainty and desperation are increasing levels of crime and instability.

We feel far from our friends there at this time but want to raise funds through International Teams to provide relief for three amazing Malawian families we worked together with. Each has huge responsiblitilies caring for orphans, leading churches and developing their communities. Their basic costs of living have risen dramatically, particularly food and school fees and your gift will go a long way to help at this difficult time.

Three Amazing Malawian Families

Samuel and Hannah Kayuni are an amazing couple who live in Lilongwe with their 28 children, 24 of whom were orphans and are now adopted into their family (they really have a family football team!). They run a car hire business which supports the family, but the scarcity of fuel has hit their business hard and meeting needs has become a real struggle. They have been friends for 6 years and we love and respect them so much.

Pastor Rogers Alfuzema and his family live in Nsanje in the far south which is the hottest, remotest and most malarial part of Malawi. He oversees over 300 churches in rural Malawi and Mozambique and despite attractive offers to move to the city and pastor a big church, he remains totally committed to the people of this region. We have known him for over 13 years and he is an extraordinary man of humility and integrity.

Pastor Lapson & Ellen Mbewe- Are great friends and work outstandingly hard helping to meet the needs in their community. They oversee many rural churches in Southern Malawi, have foster care of over 100 orphans and also work with the blind and visually impaired to improve the quality of life in this vulnerable group. They run a maize mill and a minibus to make money to care for the children but again, fuel prices have damaged the business and the poor harvest this year means fewer people have maize to mill.
