Group B Strep is the leading cause of severe infection in newborn babies including sepsis, meningitis and pneumonia. Charity Group B Strep Support provides support for families, improves awareness, educates health professionals and campaigns for better prevention. Thanks for fundraising for GBSS.

Story

Hi all,

I will be cycling the Trans Pennine Trail from Hull to Southport from 23rd to 26th June along with a few friends. I will be fundraising for GBSS: www.gbss.org.uk

This charity is close to me and Sue's heart as we very nearly lost our daughter Eve two years ago when she was just two weeks old. She had contracted meningitis from the infection GBS, she is now a healthy, happy (sometimes!) little girl with her whole life in front of her. Things could have been so much different and unfortunately this is the case for too many parents.

Group B Strep Support (GBSS) is a UK charity, founded in 1996. Our three main aims are to:

  • Offer information and support to families affected by group B Streptococcus;
  • Inform health professionals and individuals how most group B Strep infections in newborn babies can be prevented; and
  • Generate continued support for research into preventing group B Strep infections in newborn babies.

At Group B Strep Support, we believe that every woman should be informed about group B Strep and offered the opportunity to have a sensitive test to detect GBS carriage late in pregnancy.

Thanks for your support,

Ste
