My son, Alex, was diagnosed with Cancer in his brain (a glioblastoma) back in December 2016 when he was aged 12.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page, to find out why we are raising money for CLIC Sargent and hopefully to support us.

Cancer doesn't discriminate. Today, 11 more children and young people will hear the devastating news that they have cancer. From diagnosis, CLIC Sargent's specialist care teams will step in, ready to help, support and guide. They will provide a specialist package of support tailored to each young cancer patient and family. CLIC Sargent fights tirelessly for children and young people with cancer, often when they feel they can't. They do this individually, locally and nationally, so that they can focus on the important things, like getting well. And if the worst happens, they work with bereaved families to get them support, to help them cope with their emotional pain.

We live in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, and running is very much part of life for the Stebbing family. Paul started running about 2008, successfully completing his first half marathon in 2012 and his first full marathon in 2014. He's since run a further five marathons and many more half marathons. He raised nearly £1000 for CLIC Sargent in 2015 running his first Brighton Marathon, so he knows about all the hard work that they do to help cancer patients and their families. I started running about three years ago and have now completed numerous 10k and half marathons races. Brighton 2018 will be my very FIRST MARATHON and Paul will be joining me. Our daughters Hannah-May and Katie have also been encouraged to follow mum and dad, and often tackle the Scunthorpe Parkrun.

We are both members of Scunthorpe and District Athletics Club, as well as the virtual #pins running group, and it was last year that we got to hear about the plight of Alex McCarthy, an incredibly brave 13 year old from Bristol. His parents are both members of the #pins group. He showed such courage and bravery in his fight against cancer and the whole group were soon tagging their runs with the #RunForAlex hashtag. Alex sadly lost his fight just before Christmas 2017, so we decided that we wanted to run Brighton in his memory and to raise valuable funds for CLIC Sargent. Several of us will be running for Alex, including his mum Rebecca and stepdad Steve. I hope we can all do him proud and that April 15th will be a very positive day, with lots of #pins group members meeting for the very first time to do something very positive.
