In 2008 I witnessed a family member, Brian Jones, taken from us by Mesothelioma and how it significantly affected the whole family. Since then I have been wanting and trying to raise awareness of Meso and the dangers it causes to a persons health.

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that affects the Mesothelium, which is the thin membrane that lines the inner surface of the chest wall and is caused by inhaled asbestos. Meso takes many years for symptoms to appear, by which time the cancer may have become well established. This makes effective treatment difficult and is considered one of the most challenging of all cancers. There is no cure for meso and little investment in research as survival rates are very low compared to other cancers!

I therefore want to raise awareness of the dangers of asbestos and the work Mesothelioma UK do to support family, friends and sufferers of this cancer. Hopefully one day, a cure or even a longer living treatment is found.

Mesothelioma UK is a national resource centre dedicated to providing specialist mesothelioma information, education, support and improved care and treatment and need all the help they can get to provide all these!
