Sony Ericsson Run to the Beat Half Marathon 2009 · 27 September 2009 ·

ThePromise pioneers new ways of supporting children with disabilities in Russia both in the community and within the orphanage system. It introduced the widely acclaimed pre-school education system called Portage into a Russian Baby Home, providing a model of best practice which has now been rolled out into the community and other institutions.

Story

Hi everyone,

For the second time in as many years, I'm doing the Run to the Beat half-marathon round Greenwich for charity.

This time I'll be running all 13 of those long miles for The Promise, a really great charity working with Russian orphans which my Mum works for. They raise money to fund Portage workers who spend time in the orphanages every day doing structured play with children to provide early education to mainly disabled children who have been left out of the state system in Russia. The change that this can bring about in the children is amazing to see.
