Story
I did complete the 100 miles in the RideLondon 100 to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Research Centre at UCL. Why should you sponsor me?
Well boys (and girls if you care about your partners) did you know that prostate cancer is the most common male cancer and it kills about 10,000 men every year in the UK. By the time you reach 50 you will have a about a 10% chance of having it and if you aspire to reach 70 like me you will have a 40% chance. The research at UCL is focussing on two areas: identifying the stem cells in the prostate that start the cancer and then how it spreads from the prostate to other organs in the body which is how it kills. So they can work out how to stop it starting and also stop it spreading.
I’m also doing this in memory of Andy Ripley, amazing rugby player in 1970s, ergo world champion and rower in 1990s and ex president of Tideway Scullers School who died in June 2010. Prostate cancer can take the fittest of us and can creep up undetected.
So if you want to help yourself and your fellow man live a little longer please sponsor me and the Prostate Cancer Research Centre. So please dig deep and donate now.
