Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
What to do when you've already done a long-distance cycle ride before and a marathon before to raise money I thought?
Not being the most imaginative I've decided to do another long-distance cycle ride and another marathon - but within a month of each other.
I've met all the costs myself so every penny goes to charity.
On May 7th-9th I'll be cycling from London to Paris in three days.
On June 6th I'll be running the Stockholm Marathon.
All money raised goes to Computer Aid to support school and hospital programmes Africa and other developing countries. This year's money supports the community of Macha which has already used wireless connectivity 50 miles from the nearest road in Zambia to drive spectacular rural development. A few short years ago Macha was losing it's most talented people to the cities and local people were mostly reliant on subsistance crops for survival. With the arrival of the internet, pushed out from a single connection via wireless routers, the community has already managed to diversify its agriculture, train more local nurses, set up a research lab that has dramatically reduced instances of Malaria and set up business links with other countries. All of this, run by local people, has created over a thousand jobs - proof that IT, and through it information and ideas, is the starting point for poverty alleviation across the world.
Have a look at this site to find out more about the project (or ask me) if you're interested:
They need a few more computers as you'd expect so that school children and adults can learn the skills they need for jobs in the future. Computer Aid can get them there for £55 each and the local kids can keep them going for ages. Please help.
