Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

If you can't be bothered to read all of this - please just give! Even if it's only £1, it will go to a great cause that many will never have heard of. PLEASE make a donation and leave a comment on my page. You never know - I just might get into this fundraising malarkey and run the London Marathon next year! (fat chance) so read on....and, by the way, Mon made me wear lycra for these pics - and I will never forgive her!

A group of us (mainly V-dubbers) want to give children the chance of a better life through overcoming the challenges of often severe physical disability and learning difficulties.

Spina bifida(SB) can mean kids become life-time wheelchair users from when they are only toddlers. Many will also have problems with incontinence. Hydrocephalus(H) results from brain injury and can affect memory loss and the ability to understand and learn. It also affects behaviour and children can feel very lonely, knowing they feel different but not understanding why.

SHINE provides every kind of support a family or individual might need to make the most of their lives. From help in the classroom for both the child and the teachers - to information on the disabilities and advising health professionals. They also bring families together so they can support each other and gain up to date information on these little known conditions.

£5 can pay for a new parent infopack to help when a baby is born with SB/H . £10 could help pay for a family to attend specialist info days to meet other families, share their stories and increase their knowledge. Any gift is absolutely invaluable.

SHINE has to raise all its costs by voluntary support and with over 9,500 members, they need all the help they can get. That's why I'm doing my bit. It might be a small bit, but it will make a huge difference to someone out there.

I have a strange tricycle that I'm going to attempt to ride from Peterborough city centre to Ferry Meadows. Not sure of miles yet but it looks epic when you are cycling only 3 inches from the tarmac and steering with your (I'm not too sure what I'm steering with!) When I told my VW buddies, most of them immediately offered to join me (we all have choppers, trikes, custom bikes). So, that's what's going to happen so far. We are hoping for either late June or first week in July but will keep you posted.

Will keep you updated with pics, blogs and videos - I can't steer in a straight line at the moment so plenty of training needed. PLEASE, please dig deep and donate now and help make a difference. Thank you!!!!
