Story

Kelly and Steve are running as the Phoenix team for Relay GB. Dave, one of our colleagues from Phoenix many years ago, is affected by this terrible illness. So we felt it was a very worthy cause to support.

Both of us are actively supporting the cause behind the scenes through IT (which is for both of us, our chosen path in life) in various ways through our links with John Stanford, the event organiser. Kelly has spent many weeks developed the entire website for the RelayGB event, while Steve has created the GPS tracking apps used by the runners and transmitted back to the RelayGb site and turned into map displays.

However, we decided that we would like to help and run one of the legs too. For Kelly, running his own business and fitting the running training in around other sporting commitments was very difficult. For Steve, family life and also a hectic work life meant that training for this event was a unique challenge. So from no running fitness to half marathon fitness in about as many weeks as it was miles was not easy. We are running stage 1 leg 9 - the Portsmouth to Lyndhurst. This starts at 5pm on the 5th and finishes about 9pm. Kelly is doing the first half marathon and steve will do the second.

There are hundreds of runners from all around the UK all running in relay to make this event happen. This event is not just about fundraising, it is also a world record breaking attempt as well, as the previous world record is hoping to be smashed in 11 days time.
