Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Over thirty years ago (was it really THIRTY years?) as a fresh faced Company Trainee with Wimpey Construction, I met fellow Trainee Larry Burns. Larry was a feisty Salfordian with an unbelievable spirit (and capacity for drink!!). Larry and I hit it off from day one and he remained a great friend and huge influence on my life up to his death 2 years ago.

We were part of a close knit group of friends who were brought together through Wimpey and Preston Poly and although we've since been spread over the four corners of the world we've remained good mates over the past thirty years or so.

Following Larry's death in 2007 we've had quite a few 'Larry Burns weekends' as a group where the routine has been to get away for the weekend, reminisce about Larry and, as its been a 'Larry Burns Weekend', its usually been fuelled by copious amounts of alcohol.

On the last weekend away some idiot suggested that we raise some money in support of the Lawrence Burns Charitable Trust by cycling 'coast to coast' - the original route was Whitehaven to Sunderland but those of you who know me will understand that being spotted in Sunderland was not an option and so we'll be going through the Toon and on to Tynemouth.

We're setting off on the 14th August and will hopefully have covered the 150 miles or so by Christmas. Thank you for your support and I'll see you if I get back.
