Story
In September 2004 aged 38, my wife Mary was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. This is a blood cancer which develops in the bone marrow causing bone deterioration, fractures and chronic bone pain. Whilst its progress can be managed through chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants,
it is in the end a terminal illness.
St. Oswald's Hospice has supported us with palliative and pain management care for the last five years. We are deeply grateful to all of its staff and volunteers. This is my first Great North Run, it has taken me some time, (well 50 years), to get round to it.
I am running for St. Oswald's so that I may, in some small way, express my thanks.
