Donating in Memory of Steve Spurling
Steve passed away peacefully at home on 18 July 2010 following a long, courageous and determined battle against bowel cancer.
Steve was diagnosed with cancer just over a year ago. Despite extensive initial surgery and a punishing 24 week cycle of chemotherapy, he fought the cancer with the strength of character, resolution and inherent optimism known and loved by all of us. He was determined to continue working and living as normal a family life as he could.
Despite initial encouraging signs, the cancer went into an advanced stage earlier this year. Steve bravely fought on. Sadly, as aggressively as he fought, the cancer took over.
Steve's mother, Doris died of a form of bowel cancer when he was a young boy. This family history in part led Steve to give up his time to help and support Cancer Research UK. In addition he regularly gave blood and was a valued blood platelet donor until his illness regretably prevented him from continuing to donate.
In the spirit of Steve's generosity to others, Steve's wife Jean and his sons Andrew and Marc ask that, rather than buying flowers in memory of Steve, donations are made to The Bobby Moore Fund. This charity is associated with Cancer Research UK. It is set up to promote awareness into bowel cancer and its symptoms. It also provides funding to innovative research projects into bowel cancer. In this way it is our hope that Steve can continue to benefit others and help to fight this terrible disease.
Thank you for visiting our donation page. We are very grateful to you for taking the time to read our thoughts and for taking the time to donate to this great charity. Please donate what you can (however small) and remember Steve in your thoughts.
