I'm one of the trustees for a charity that is trying to contribute towards efforts to reduce preventable deaths in Malawi: in pregancy and childbirth, in childhood, under anaesthesia and intensive care. Many of those who die in Malawai die due to preventable causes often secondary to lack of resources and education. Part of the solution is education and team training which is what Scotland Malawi Anaesthesia is all about (<a href="http://www.smap.org.uk/">www.smap.org.uk</a>). Annual training courses are delivered in partnership with our Malawian colleagues to support local clinical officers and nurses in the care of women in childbirth, children and the very sick and injured.</p>
