Story

Steve Tarrant, 53 from Poole, is a disabled motorsport marshal who survived a near-fatal crash at Goodwood and is attempting to drive a TGA mobility scooter, the furthest distance ever in 24 hours during May.

Steve will be beginning his attempt at 6pm on 17th May 2014 at Goodwood Motor Circuit, near Chichester, that was the location of his highly publicised accident back in 2000. Steve lost a leg above the knee and suffered multiple injuries when an F1 racing car collided with him at over 100mph whilst marshaling on the finish line at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Steve managed to miraculously pull through this terrible accident and has since continued to marshal internationally at events such as the Le Mans 24 Hours and Petit Le Mans, Road Atlanta. In addition to his motorsport commitments, Steve was a medal bearing Games Maker at London 2012 that led to his acceptance of the Big Society Award from David Cameron on behalf of his fellow games makers.

On the 17 and 18th May 2014, Steve will be attempting to smash the Guinness World Record for 'The Greatest distance covered in 24 hours by a mobility scooter'. He will be driving a TGA Breeze S4 GT around a pre-determined circuit at Goodwood and has the full support of all his contacts at the racetrack. TGA will be supporting Steve during the build up and throughout his epic attempt by loaning a Breeze scooter along with all parts, batteries and technical back up required to complete the challenge. TGA engineers will be on hand to co-ordinate all mechanical aspects of the attempt and will work alongside the rest of Steve's experienced pit crew. To add to the uniqueness of Steve's challenge, he will be driving the complete distance on punctured tyres that have been injected with TGA's new, revolutionary tyre sealant system. Manufactured by Poole's Sales Science, this pioneering solution will mean that even when Steve is driving with nails in his tyres, he will only experience minimal loss of pressure.

Daniel Stone, TGA's Managing Director added: "We are proud to be supporting Steve on his latest World Record attempt. Since his terrible accident, his grit and determination have to be fully admired and this forthcoming challenge will once again demonstrate his impressive strength of character. Steve will be driving the GT version of our market-leading Breeze along with the remarkable effectiveness of our new puncture sealant system. We wish Steve the very best of luck for his attempt."

Geoff Chown of Sales Science concluded: "When the lights go green, Steve will drive his scooter over a bed of nails and then proceed to drive for 24 hours non-stop and hopefully break the current world record of over 150 miles. We met Steve a year ago and love his passion for life, he loves a challenge and we're behind him all the way!"
