My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I work as a Missionary for Edinburgh City Mission. Behind the public face of one of the world's  most picturesque citites lies a community of people who are hurting and crying out for care.....

Part of that care  is the initiative that I have the privilege to oversee. We offer food and care to people who are referred to us by a range of statutory and voluntary agencies. People come to us for a variety of reasons, temporary unemployment, bereavement, pendng benefit claim, addiction issues, and a variety of other circumstances.

Last year, 2011, we had almost 400 new referrals and with the help of churches, schools and individuals who donate food, we were able to give away 24,000kgs of food.

The need for our service has grown enormously and we are looking to set up 2 new "Basics Banks" in different parts of the city and need "seed money" to cover the set up costs. To raise the funds a group of us will be having a sponsored sleep out in Ednburgh, Feb 24th 2012.

It is a Christian Charity which shows Gods love in action through their Basics Bank project by providing emergency food. It runs the Carevan which travels the city each night providing hot food and drink to the homeless and also provides night shelters throughout the winter months.
