Firstly, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
As most of you know, our daughter Georgia contracted pneumococcal meningitis when she was 15 months old, which left her profoundly deaf. As a result of the meningitis, she had to learn how to sit, stand and walk all over again. We feel really lucky that Georgia, now almost 4, is here and doing so well. Throughout her illness and subsequent recovery, we received first class support from health professionals and charities alike. It is now our turn to give something back.
So, Christina (my lovely wife for those who don't know her) has encouraged me to get my toes cold in the Arctic for week; not for work this time, but for the Meningitis Research Foundation. On 10 April 2010, I will be heading off to Norway to drive a pack of huskies 250km across the Arctic to Sweden. OK, so me driving them is perhaps a tad inaccurate...more likely I will be hanging on for dear life, relying on my dogs to get me through the snow without frostbite or (more) broken bones. Once the dogs have worked like, err dogs, I will be looking after them, setting up camp and cooking, all hopefully under the spectacular Northern Lights.
By sponsoring me to take on this challenge, you will also be supporting an organisation that, through its research, is trying to prevent more families suffering from the devastating effects of meningitis.
