My story

I thought I would add a short postscript to below - post rally. Some of you may know that we won the event by just 38 seconds after 29 hard days of competition and nearly 10k miles through 14 countries. I would like to thank everyone who has donated via this site and by other means for such a great little charity and, in so doing, helped us to this success. Just to take part in such an historic motorsport event was great but to win was a privilege. The car is now to go on display in the Brooklands Motor Museum and a short video from our in-car cam from the last day is on YouTube at

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This is my third long-distance rally and I reckon the hardest by some margin. Like the previous 2 (North Sweden-Aquaba and London-Sydney), I'll be doing it with my co-driver and vastly experienced navigator Bob Duck. The event is over 10,000 miles from London to Cape Town in 28 days through 14 countries. It is highly competitive rally via some of the most inhospitable roads in the world and it starts under Big Ben in London on 1st January 2012.

The event will capture the spirit of the classic long-distance rallies of the 1970's such as London-Sydney and London-Mexico and is designed to be just as arduous. Organised service support is not allowed and the crew of 2 must carry almost everything they need to keep going for 28 days, driving by day and servicing and repairing by night.

I'm raising money for a great charity; incidentally established by another car nut. African Revival funds schools in rural areas of Africa where up to 80% of the population don't receive regular education. £ for £ it makes a massive difference to people's lives whether it be in self-sustaining agriculture, reducing HIV Aids or reducing infant mortality. The rally will be visiting schools en route allowing us to see their great work for ourselves and each competitor will be carrying a number of books to drop off on the way.

Our car is number 23 - a Subaru Impreza 2.0 standard saloon - not even a turbo. It has modified suspension and extra under-guarding to survive the rough roads of Africa but otherwise is mechanicallystandard and was bought from ebay for just over £3000 as an insurance write-off. Oh - and we'll be going the entire way on van tyres! I'll be putting a video of the car on this site at a later date.

Please help me raise funds for African Revival's great work. Keep track on the results of the event in January by checking www.londoncapetownrally.com. Also check out my blog at http://stevebluntlondontocapetownrally.blogspot.com/ which I will try to keep updated.
