River deep, mountain high
I always knew that a 1000km motorbike ride through the Himalayas would be a challenge but can now cheerfully admit, had I known exactly how challenging I would have probably opted for something more sedentary - like the Tour de France, perhaps.
In fact the 1000km trip soon became 1500km and it felt much closer to 5000km on the ‘roads’ of Northern India.
When you’re faced daily with tracks of rocks, stones, loose sand, deep mud and freezing fords, it’s only the other members of your group who keep you going.
At one stage on the misty Rohtang Pass, our group became caught in the havoc caused by terrible weather and landslides. We spent hours threading our way down the side of a mud-bound convoy with a sheer drop waiting to punish any poor maneuvers. And when we reached the front we were faced with exactly the same coming the other way!
To remember were the many uplifting moments, the Dalai Lama Temple, the cheerful kids in the villages and the inspiring landscape and the spectacular sights.
The Pepper Foundation supports children (and their families) with terminal illnesses, is based in my home town of Berkhamsted, . Once you donate, Just Giving will send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
