For the last few years I have watched the London Marathon and wished that I was part of it, so this year I decided I was not getting any younger and instead of just thinking about it I should just do it! So for the last month or so I have been getting in to training and aim to be in tip top condition ready to run the London Marathon on 25th April 2010.
The longest race I have completed was last year when I ran 10K for cancer research, roughly a quarter of a marathon. So running the full 26.2 miles on the big day is considerably longer! I am however determined to complete the marathon in one piece and in what I hope to be a respectable time.
Helping drive me to reach that goal is knowing that I am running to raise money for St Helena Hospice a great charity. St Helena Hospice provides specialist palliative care services, with no charge to patients and their families, for people living in who have progressive, life threatening illness. The emphasis is about quality of life and services include community and day services, the in-patient unit, Macmillan nurses, medical services, family support, art therapy, spiritual support, physiotherapy and occupational therapy as well as complementary therapies such as acupuncture.
