Story
I know firsthand the effect that kidney disease has on the physical and mental health of kidney patients. That is why I support Kidney Research UK and all their efforts to improve treatment for kidney sufferers, and ultimately to find a cure for kidney disease.
As both our sons, Joel and Oliver, suffered from kidney failure from 1997 onwards our family has lived with the health rollercoaster ride that followed. I donated a kidney to Joel in 1999 and after Oliver became ill he had a transplant in 2002. Joel has now had a second transplant. Both sons, who are now in their 40s, live pretty normal lives, although they have had some difficult times.
Many kidney patients live a far from satisfactory existence. In fact, millions of patients in the UK currently suffer from severe kidney disease. That's why I am doing my little bit to raise money for Kidney Research UK. I had no intention of ever running any marathons, but after my kidney donation surgery I decided to get fit and to raise money for kidney research. Now, after 7 marathons in London, twice, New York, Dublin, Edinburgh, Amsterdam and, during Covid, a 'virtual' London Marathon I am embarking on my final run over 26.2 miles, namely the Yorkshire Marathon on 15th October. Why stop now? Because at 75 my body is creaking a bit!
I shall be truly grateful for any donation you feel able to make. Thank you.
