St John Cymru Wales wants to put a lifesaver within minutes of every home in . To do this, the charity needs kind donations from the public to ensure its thousands of volunteers have the highest level of first aid training.Thousands of homes in have received an appeal letter which includes an inspirational story about two St John Wales volunteers who saved a little girl’s life whilst on holiday abroad.
Father and son, Rob and Gareth Hancock, were in Lanzarote when a six-year-old girl was unconscious at the bottom of a nearby pool. The volunteers remained calm as they were equipped with the skills to save lives.
They began resuscitation efforts, carrying out chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth. They treated the girl for over 15 minutes until she finally started breathing again allowing the pair to stabilise her before the emergency services arrived.
This is just one of the amazing lifesaving stories that could have easily ended in tragedy if it wasn’t for the first aid knowledge of St John Wales volunteers.
Before St John Wales allows its volunteers to pick up a first aid kit, support a public event or set foot in of its emergency vehicles, they need to undergo rigorous training.
, director of fundraising and marketing, said any donation, big or small, can make all the difference in furthering the charity’s lifesaving work.
She said: “More than 4,500 of our fantastic volunteers across already give so much of their time so selflessly to help others clocking up over 250,000 hours of public service last year.
“Without the help of public donations, we can’t recruit, train and equip our special volunteers on whom so many lives depend.”
