Story
Stroud Hockey Club Cycle The Cotswold Way
At 3 months old Ella was taken into hospital following a number of seizures and after some initial tests was diagnosed with a rare condition called Miller-Dieker syndrome. This condition means her brain is completely smooth due to a genetic abnormality and did not fully develop. This means her development will be slow and she will be disabled requiring constant care, she will not be able to walk or talk and continues to have seizures daily. Sadly Ella’s condition cannot be cured and is life limiting so she is not expected to reach adulthood but with the help and support we can help maintain a high quality of life for her
.
After hearing about Ella’s condition members of Stroud Hockey Club decided to set a challenge to help raise some money for Acorn’s Children’s hospice. Acorns provide care and support to both Ella and her family. She has day visits there where she can use the pool and sensory room and meet other children with similar conditions. They also offer respite care and short breaks to give her parents much needed rest knowing she is being cared for by trained nursing staff. When the time comes they will also provide her end of life care to make it as comfortable as possible for both Ella and her parents.
The challenge they have decided on is to cycle the Cotswold Way in 2 days on the 4 and 5 May. The Trail is 102 miles long, with a total ascent of 3245 ft, which is higher than the 3 peaks combined. All off road - this is a huge physical test!
Acorns relies on charitable donations, it cost £750 a day to look after a severely disables child and currently 640 children and 900 families rely on the help and support that Acorns provide We are aiming to raise £10,000 so please donate as much as you can to this great cause by visiting:
