Great, you made it this far, please continue...
How your money can make a HUGE difference:
£9 will buy 30 bricks for a new permenant house
£9 will buy two food bags. A food bag can feed a family of up to 8 people.
£10 will provide basic medical assessments plus medicine for ten people.
£10 will provide 5 people with vital blood tests.
£30 will fund the Juice Programme. This will provide 70 children with drink of juice and a salami sandwich, an egg, fruit and biscuits.
Other costs:
£2800 per house. Plan to build four houses.
£28 per month per child for education.
The Raisin’ D Republic Project will provide a life changing experience for ten young people (aged 14 – 21) and two young(ish) film makers associated with Knights Youth Centre but also for people who live in the slums of Sosua. Sosua in the Dominican Republic is home to former hired hands from the sugar plantations – many have come across the border to Haiti. Thousands of people live in unsanitary conditions, in shacks made of sticks and rubble on less than £1 a day.
The KYC team will be working alongside Mission Direct who manages a number of projects in a range of countries across the world helping the poorest communities.
Stage 1
The team from KYC will participate in the national Three Peaks Challenge between April 28 to May 1.
The Three Peaks (3P)Challenge will involve the team scaling the three highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scarfell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) in three days.
The 3P Challenge will be used to raise support and awareness for the Mission Direct programme and the work which the team will undertake. However, the team will need to be physically fit to go on such a challenge and be prepared to undertake some personal training.
Stage 1 will enable the team to raise funds and awareness for the project in Sosua. The secondary purpose will enable the team to develop a collective sense of purpose and to understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses.
Stage 2
The chosen team will fly out to Dominican Republic to support and deliver a number of projects.
These projects include:
Building permanent brick structure houses for families who live in the slums
Involvement with local schools
Visiting local hospitals
Food runs
Church visits
Playing with the local young people
The team will be working with the locals in Dominican Republic for up to twelve hours each day. This will be very tough!
Every pound you can give will make a life changing difference to the people who live in Sousa.
Please give as generously as you can.
Many many thanks for your support.
