On Thursday 19th June 2014 Oscar Noah Cole died.
Oscar was in hospital being treated routinely for an infection and nobody imagined that he would not make a full recovery. A post mortem and investigation followed and at a meeting with his consultants at the beginning of 2015 Hannah and David were finally able to understand what was likely to have caused Oscar's death. Essentially it was a
combination of bad luck and bad timing with Oscar contracting Rotavirus during
his treatment which in turn lead to Encephalitis, which is a very rare outcome.
The objectives for ‘Thinking of Oscar’ are:
The relief of sickness and promotion of the health of children, young people and their families whilst in hospital care across England, in particular but not exclusively by:
- Providing support and activities to patients (children) their families and medical teams who strive to make their time in hospital as comfortable as possible.
- Providing funding for the development of research and development into and the provision of improved diagnostic techniques and technology.
- Providing increased access to relevant knowledge and data via the sharing of best practice and the application of technology.
Over the past 12 months the charity has achieved a great deal in raising over £60,000 from last years Blenheim triathlon and £40,000 from other charitable activities including a cricket match, cookbook and charity ball
The aim of the charity is to raise another £100,000 over the next 12 months.
As some of you will know I did the Blenheim Triathlon last year and will compete again this year on Saturday 5th June. The difference is that this year I am also participating in the 3 peaks challenge. This will take place over a 24 hour period on Saturday 21st
May. The challenge is to climb the 3 highest peaks in the United Kingdom. Ben
Nevis, Scafell and Snowdonia. We will start at 8am in Scotland and finish by
8am the following day in North Wales.
Thank you so much for your support. Any amount of donation, large or small is greatly appreciated.
