Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

So after wondering how and why people ran marathons during my adolescent years, and this after destroying myself playing rugby league I still always fancied one, one day......

I ummed and arred, and had a few catalysts, we will get to that, but again as per when registrations went live, manana you get the drift.

I then met Helen, who I live with in Blackheath, South London with Amber (8 year old rottie bitch) who had run the Marathon a few years prior, in an inspirational cause for her sister Clare and the bug was reignited.

Helen is organised, focussed and driven, I am when I want to be, this time when registrations went live, mine was sent. I do not believe I had much to do with this part of the process.

I received a letter on the 21st anniversary of my Mum Pauline's passing, it had a magazine in it which said congratulations. I had received the aforementioned magazine many times before and it said sorry. I had a place in the Marathon. I was feeling pretty low that particular day for obvious reasons but then so chuffed that I could finally give something back to St Mary's. Quite possibly the finest coincindence or irony of the first degree and definately not a sales ploy, even though I am a self professed sales guru.

Mum was an amazing individual, I was fortunate to have 13 years and learnt enough to show me the right way, however cancer is viscious and even the toughest sometimes just cant win. After beating it once and managing to take me, my sister and nan on a trip of a lifetime untold stresses led to its return.

St Mary's dealt with my Mum with pride and dignity and for me to remember this quite fondly from seeing things that you should not see at that age shows the professional and sensitive nature that they showed. I am still grateful.

Almost 10 years later the person who probably shaped me the most in my development was also gripped with the disease, now Nan, Ma, Mum, Joan, she was known to many by many names was at peace. Again treated by the staff at St Marys with the most admirable care.

In a wonderful display of support Helen is again running the Marathon this year so the arguments have already started, the house has turned in to the house of lycra and porridge is becoming a pain in the arse, literally but I can't believe your doing this for me and FSID and am eternally grateful, love you.

Now Ulverston is a beautiful little place and will always be home so I also know how many within this community have been touched by St Mary's and I ask you to support me with this. Just a small donation will help us help others and continue the fine work.

I will be attacking you quite frantically across social media networks and you do know that I am quite a stubborn persistant individual!

For those at work and in London there will be a cheeky sweetie jar appearing in the office and a quiz etc so thanks in advance!

Right that about covers it for now, Im now 34, will be 35 when we run, I have a titanium ankle and a few bad habits but determination (Helen) will get me through the training, fund raising will be a success with all of your help and the pint at the end will be bliss!

Thanks for reading, if you managed to get to the end please give me a retweet or a like on faceache so we can get to £5K!
