The Fishermen's Mission is the only national charity working solely to support active and retired fishermen and their families by providing practical, financial and pastoral support. Fishing is dangerous and unpredictable. Hardship and tragedy are facts of everyday life in the UK’s fishing industry.

Story

I have teamed up with Arnold Locker of Lockers Fish, and his son James to raise money for the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen. We are going to trek for 6 days along the Great Wall of China in China and would be delighted if you could sponsor us. We are paying our own travel costs so every penny of your donation goes directly to the charity. The challenge will take place during October when we will fly to Beijing and commence the 10-day trek.

All the funds raised will be going to help the Fishermen’s Mission which helps take care of widows and orphans of those lost at sea and provides emergency and welfare support 24 hours a day. This is a charity we are all really passionate about. Working as a fisherman is a very dangerous and lonely job and fishermen often risk their lives to provide a living for their families and fish for us to eat. The Fishermen's Mission makes a real impact on the hardship some fishermen and their families face.

The Great Wall stretches from the Shanhaiguan Pass on the eastern coast to the Jiayuguan Pass in the Gobi Desert. Trekking the wall is no mean feat as it is very steep in parts,  journeys over mountains and hills, with some of the world’s most dramatic scenery. We will be in good company as we are joined by the West brothers, Scottish fishermen from the BBC Trawlermen Series and director of fund-raising for the Fishermen’s Mission, Lady Campbell. Your support is so very much appreciated by all of us and will go to an excellent cause.
