Highways Agency North West Charity Bike Ride 2009 · 2 September 2009
The North West Air Ambulance (NWAA) is a unique regional medical air emergency service covering Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside and Cumbria.
Established in 1999, the North West Air Ambulance (NWAA) is a registered charity receiving no mainstream funding.
Costing just over £3.5 million a year to maintain, the NWAA covers all major motorway incidents, and areas that have poor and restricted road access.
The Air Ambulance facilitates urgent hospital transfers for critically ill or injured patients, particularly those needing to travel long distances for emergency surgery, for example those with severe head injuries. Inter-hospital transfer for spinal injuries is now routinely undertaken by Air Ambulance.
To raise vital funds for NWAA, 40 Highways Agency Traffic Officers (HATOs), from the North West Region, will be participating in a charity bike ride over the 2nd & 3rd September 2009 at Samlesbury Air Field. Each HATO will be cycling between 100-200 miles over the 2 days raising as much money as possible for this worthwhile cause.
Any donations and/or sponsorship will be greatly appreciated!! UPDATE With six days to go, I would like to thanks all who have supported me so far. There is still time left if you wish to donate, so please do!!!
