Edinburgh Marathon Festival Full Marathon 2016 · 29 May 2016 ·

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.

Story

Last February my very good friend Jim Harding sadly lost his fight against pancreatic cancer aged just 37.

Throughout his 14 month illness Jim never let his diagnosis stop him from living life to the full and has inspired many of his friends and family to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

His wife, Fiona, turns 30 in October 2016 and has chosen to dedicate the year to raise as much money as possible for the charity. She has devised 30 challenges to undertake throughout the year and has roped in friends to help raise as much money as possible as part of #teamjim

I will be running my first ever marathon (is it really over 26 miles ??) in memory of him and to try and raise some much needed money for this fantastic charity.

Pancreatic Cancer UK

- Pancreatic cancer has the worst survival rate of all cancers
- Pancreatic cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer death in the UK and yet receives only one per cent of overall research funding
- The average life expectancy on diagnosis is four to six months
- 1-year survival rate is less than 20%
- 5-year survival rate is only 3%. This figure has not changed in over 40 years
Pancreatic Cancer UK is the only national charity fighting pancreatic cancer on all fronts: Support, Information, Campaigning and Research.  They have 2 ambitious goals to double five-year pancreatic cancer survival rates within five years and to change the NHS experience of pancreatic cancer patients from being one of the worst to one of the best!
