Kabaka community school is a rural community about 25km west of Kapiri Mposhi in Kapiri District, Zambia.

The current school uses an empty health clinic and makeshift classrooms of sticks and grass. There are 258 pupils, 171 girls and 87 boys, on the school register

Over the next 12 months through our charity partner, Build It International, BGL will exclusively fund the building of a new school with three classrooms, new sanitation facilities, plus a house for teachers.

 

In May 2014, I will be taking part in a 10 day visit to Zambia to help with completing the building of the school.  Living with the community, I will also have the privilege to deliver lessons and reading practice to a group of children.

Although the trip will offer a unique chance to experience life in a rural Zambian village it will also help me to experience first hand and appreciate how small things can make such a big difference to communities so far removed from the world we live in.
