Story
My lovely Dad was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer in November 2012 after months and months of being fobbed off and mis- diagnosed by doctors. By the time his cancer was diagnosed it was too late. The shock of such a diagnosis for someone who was so fit and healthy, who loved life and contributed so much to others was difficult for all of us to deal with, then and now.
We now know that our family's story is not uncommon- that pancreatic cancer is one of the hardest to diagnose and has one of the very poorest survival rates- rates that have not changed/ improved in the last 40 years. We want to contribute to a charity 'Pancreatic Cancer Action UK' that aims to raise awareness of the symptoms of P.C amongst both the public AND, importantly, GP practices. Early diagnosis is currently the only hope of treating P.C more successfully.
By the time Trekfest takes place, it will be almost a year since my Dad died. He would be amazed that Kev and I have signed up to it, and embarrassed at the fuss we are making about him. But we want to do everything we can to make sure that other people have a fighting chance against this 'silent killer'- something Dad felt he didn't get. Please help us to raise money for this fantastic charity.
Love Sue
