My story
In the photo we look like sane, rational people - not the sort to run themselves into the ground just for the fun of it!
So I guess we're not doing it for the fun of it - we're doing this to try to raise some money for CAFOD, a charity we we have both supported for a long time. CAFOD works through the Catholic Church to try to help those in real poverty in the world, the type of poverty that denies people choice, dignity and justice, and which is almost always found in the developing world. In the developing world people do not have access to systems to help them to cope with, or escape from poverty, there are no state benefits or health care, and the poor often become abused and victimised.
Sue and Phil believe strongly that all people are entitled to live with dignity and justice, and that we who have been blessed with so much have a responsibility to share what we can with others. We also know that working through the Church is an excellent way to do this, as the reach of our Church is so wide, we can donate money here in England and it can reach to help real people in 60 countries throughout the world. So little money donated here can make so much difference there.
It makes running 13.1 miles seem so much more worth it, doesn't it? And so much easier, we hope...
