Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.

I have been a renal (kidney) nurse for the last 22 years and during that time I have met some very brave, motivated and sometimes very scared patients with kidney disease. Kidney failure is a horrible long term condition with many complications for which there is currently no cure and for which the main treatment is a life time of regular dialysis (3 times a week minimum), a daily cocktail of drugs, often frequent admissions to hospital and multiple surgery. Only a 'lucky few' people undergo kidney transplantation. However, the doctors and scientists of the South West Thames Renal Research Institute are working very hard to find a cure for kidney disease and that is why I am running the 2011 London Marathon, to help raise funds so that this vital work can continue. It would be a wonderful thing if one day as a renal nurse I could say "you have kidney disease but we can cure you". Your kind donations will help to make this phrase a reality.

On a lighter note, I will be running dressed as Amy Winehouse - full beehive, tattoos and a vodka!
