The Aspire Channel Swim 2009 · 6 December 2009 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In case you are wondering, I was aiming to swim the equivalent of a channel crossing (22 miles) in my local pool in Bedford between September 14 and December 6, 2009.  I hoped to swim 2 miles a week (96 lengths) and have been updating a map of my progress at http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?hl=en&client=dell-usuk&channel=uk&ad=w5&adsafe=high&safe=high&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=102864920742443023317.0004738f63da4a8494bfd&t=h&ll=51.655519,1.378784&spn=1.53358,3.521118&z=8

I actually finished the swim on the morning of November 7 (see photo).  It was a surprise to receive a message from the President of France(?)

Many thanks especially to Neil, Marjorie, Sue and Sigi for keeping me company in the water, but also to everyone who has sponsored me. The swimming will continue: if anyone wants to join me, I usually swim on Monday, Thursday and Friday mornings between 8 and 9.
