Sunflowers & Smiles 2011
As some of you know, in July 2008 Izzy's beloved wife, my dearest friend and friend to many of you, Helen, sadly passed away after a lifelong battle against Cystic Fibrosis. Helen was loved dearly by everyone who knew her.
Helen lived life to the full and didn’t let her illness stop her doing the things she wanted to do. This included a charity expedition to Chile on Operation Raleigh, a holiday to Australia where she climbed Ayres Rock and did a bungee jump, Huskey Sledging in Iceland and gaining her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.
Helen had a daily routine of physiotherapy and nebulising, but on many occasions she needed time in hospital for a course of antibiotics and some well-earned rest. Many patients, like Helen, were at the hospital for long periods of time. Helen always spoke highly of the staff at The Royal Brompton Hospital in South Kensington. They provide excellent medical care and organise outings and activities to help make the patients stay as relaxing as possible. The Hospital also provides TVs for each room, books, DVDs and laptops for patients to use – something that Helen took advantage of and Izzy's credit card bills are proof of this! These amenities are provided as a result of donations made from families and friends of patients at the hospital.
Because of this and because Helen thought so much of the staff and the care she was given at the Hospital, a fundraising day is being held to raise money for the Foulis Ward at the Royal Brompton Hospital.
A family fun day is being held on Saturday 18 June 2011 at the Brook House Pub in Hayes and we are starting the day with a 5m sponsored walk. If you would like to sponsor us, please make a donation through this page.
